Escape Plan 2 2018

Ray Breslin manages an elite team of security specialists trained in the art of breaking people out of the world's most impenetrable prisons. When his most trusted operative, Shu Ren, is kidnapped and disappears inside the most elaborate prison ever built, entirely computerized and constantly changing shape, Ray must track him down with the help of some of his former friends.

As a true-blue Stallone fan, I buy just about every movie he is in. I was looking forward to this sequel ever since it was announced. Yes, it is highly disappointing that Schwarzenegger didn’t appear, but the teaming of Stallone and Dave Bautista (Drax in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies) held promise.

Truth is, Stallone and Bautista are supporting players here to a bunch of actors I’d never seen before. “Hades” is co-financed by Chinese production companies and apparently the movie was intended primarily as a showcase for some Chinese action stars that will be unfamiliar to most U.S, viewers. Which would be fine — IF the movie has been good.

But it’s downright unwatchable. Confusing, boring, poorly told, cheap sets, and just over all everything one would expect from a piece of crap low-budget direct-to-video release. And there ARE some good direct-to-video movies out there, especially these days when they often feature big-name stars. But this is just lame and it bears virtually zero resemblance to the first one — except that Stallone’s character is Ray Breslin (who now has his own security firm) and Fifty Cent returning as well.

Stallone is in it just enough to justify a look from hardcore fans. But this is seriously one of the worst films he has Ever appeared in. And this coming from someone who owns “Stop or My Mom Will Shoot” on DVD and who has watched it multiple times!
